Did you know?David Livingstone was the first European to cross the African continent. It was there, having witnessed the East African slave trade first hand that he became an outspoken abolitionist. In 1869, having been out of contact with the outside world for six years, the American journalist Henry Morton Stanley was sent to Zanzibar to find him. After a long two year search Stanley located Livingstone on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, greeting him with the now famous words “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?”
